ABOUT

About

Gem FM is conceived as a flexible musical entity that may incorporate solo and/or collaborative expression at any particular time.

Gem FM was created by James Freeman as the result of years of experience in the entertainment industry as a performer, engineer, songwriter and producer.

James got his start in North Carolina, where he saw Muddy Waters perform in a small club in Raleigh, an unforgettable evening. James worked at WRAL-TV as a projectionist and camera operator, participated in community theater as a lighting technician and actor, and performed in local bands.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, which landed him in California, James worked extensively as a performer and an engineer, most notably with Gary Hull in Three Neat Guys, The Briefcase Blues Band (a Blues Brothers tribute), and stage tech for Ronnie Montrose. James owns an early Steinberger L-2 bass, that he once allowed Roger Hodgson (Supertramp) the use of for his second solo album.

James moved to Florida and worked in the film and television industry, where his camera, lighting and sound work ultimately led to writer, producer, and managerial roles. James also appeared on camera in locally produced programs and was a Guest Host live on the QVC network. It also did not take long for James to become involved in the South Florida music scene, performing in bands and working as a front-of-house sound engineer for festivals and at the Seminole Casino at Coconut Creek.

James has released five albums and over a dozen singles as independent recording artist Gem FM and gained followers around the world on platforms including Spotify and SoundCloud.
